01

A coxswain doesn’t pull an oar. They multiply everyone who does.

In rowing — a sport first practised by the Ancient Egyptians along the Nile — the coxswain is the only person facing forward. They steer, they set the rhythm, and they turn eight individual efforts into one unbroken line of speed. That is the whole idea of this company — and the reason the brand exists.

A rowing eight seen from above — eight oars caught in one stroke
Eight oars, one stroke — the image the whole brand is built on.

The thought in one breath

Coxswains is a Cairo-based consultancy and holding company — AI-powered, human-driven — that builds, runs and finances ventures across marketing & media, hospitality & entertainment, and energy & industry. We don’t chase synergy slides; we carry the risk, hold the equity, and steer. Most groups add horsepower; we add coordination — the multiplier the market pays for. Human judgment sets the course; AI keeps every stroke in time.

We don’t pull harder.
We pull together — in time.

Why this matters for the brand

Every decision in this manual — the geometry of the mark, the discipline of the type, the restraint of the voice — exists to make one promise legible across a nightclub flyer, a client proposal and a four-billion-dollar project memo to a development bank. The promise is constancy under load: whatever the water, the same steady hand on the rudder.

The dot

The coxswain — the head, the call, the single point of judgement that aligns the crew.

The blade

The oar in the water — the work itself, applied at a precise, repeatable angle.

The rising chevron

The bow and the forward line — momentum, ascent, the direction everything is pointed.

Use the metaphor like salt. The rowing story is the soul of the brand, not its filler. Deploy it to frame a vision, open a keynote or anchor an investor narrative — never to decorate an ordinary sentence.

02

Strategy, positioning & the values we steer by.

The strategic platform every expression of the brand must ladder back to. If a piece of work doesn’t serve one of these, it isn’t on-brand — however beautiful it looks.

Purpose

To build and steer ventures that turn ambition into measurable momentum — across the industries that move a region forward.

Vision

To be the most trusted operating partner in the markets we enter — proof that disciplined execution and bold imagination belong in the same boat.

Positioning statement

For founders, investors and institutions who need ambition delivered, Coxswains is a Cairo-based consultancy and holding company — AI-powered, human-driven — that builds, runs and finances ventures across marketing & media, hospitality & entertainment, and energy & industry. We don’t chase synergy slides; we carry the risk, hold the equity, and steer — because real momentum comes not from more effort, but from effort kept in time.

Brand promise

Power, synchronized.

Personality & archetype

The brand carries the bearing of the Sovereign with the instincts of the Navigator — in command, but always in motion. It is composed, never loud; assured, never arrogant; precise, never cold.

AssertiveComposedPrecise DrivenEvidence-ledUnfluffed

The four values — how the crew rows

The platform every expression must ladder back to. If a piece of work doesn’t serve one of these, it isn’t on-brand — however beautiful it looks.

Operators, not advisors

We hold equity and carry the risk. Every venture is one we run, not one we consult on.

AI-powered, human-driven

Models surface the signal; our people make the call — technology with a hand on the tiller.

Measured in outcomes

Every play is built and judged against real return. No vanity metrics, no theatre.

Cross-vertical edge

Marketing, hospitality and energy under one roof — each one sharpens the others.

The brand pyramid

Every line in this manual ladders up to one of these — from the proof at the base to the purpose at the apex.

Brand in AI — the human call

AI-powered, human-driven is a governance rule, not a slogan. Models surface the signal; a named person makes the call and owns it. The brand never lets a machine speak as a person or pass a forecast as a fact.

AI may
  • Draft, summarise, translate, and explore options — always human-edited before it ships
  • Generate concept imagery clearly labelled as illustration
  • Analyse data and surface patterns for a human to judge
× AI must not
  • Speak as an individual (founder note, condolence, apology) or in investor / legal / crisis contexts
  • Name a new brand or decide brand architecture
  • Present AI imagery as a real venue/site, or a forecast as an actual — forecasts are always flagged

The test. Before any AI output ships: does a named human own it, and does it represent the real work rather than decorate it? If not, it doesn’t go out.

Sub-brands & endorsement

Sub-brands — Habibi & Co., Taco & Co., HUNALQAHIRA, Plotwist, Markit — keep their own wordmarks and personalities. They live inside their vertical’s colour world and reference Coxswains as parent where it adds trust (decks, contracts, corporate pages) — but consumer-facing collateral leads with the sub-brand, not the Coxswains accent.

Beneath them sits a rotating roster of hospitality event brands and nightsIntertwine, Purgatory, Yalla Nesk, Noname and PROM — that run under Cassette and the hospitality vertical without a standalone corporate mark. They borrow the system (type, grid, voice) and the crimson accent; each gets a lightweight event lockup, never a permanent identity.

Quick test. Group statement → gold. Vertical voice → that vertical’s accent. Consumer sub-brand → its own identity, Coxswains endorsed in the margin. Event night → event lockup, crimson, retired after the season.

Endorsement decision tree

How prominently Coxswains appears depends on the context, not the entity.

Sub-brand autonomy grid

Always inherit

The structural grid, the voice principles, the accessibility floor, the naming system, the 60/30/10 discipline.

Permitted variance

Its own wordmark, its own brand colour, a display face for the logo — all inside the hierarchy. One dominant signal only.

Requires CMO approval

A new sub-brand identity or name, any change to a lockup, or mixing more than one accent on a surface. Never three palettes on one surface.

Verbal Identity

04

We write the way a coxswain calls: short, clear, on the beat.

One voice runs through a party flyer and a development-bank memo — the register shifts, the character never does. Four principles hold it together.

01 — Direct

Say the thing. Lead with the point, then support it. Cut throat-clearing, hedging and warm-up.

We say

“Cassette cleared 71% gross margin in its first season. Here’s how we scale it.”

Not

“We are thrilled to share some exciting learnings from what has been a truly remarkable journey for the venue.”

02 — Evidence-led

Hard numbers, clear logic. Every claim earns its place with a figure, a source or a mechanism. We always distinguish actual from forecast.

We say

“Projected 2026 EBITDA of EGP 3.2M, built on Q1 actuals and a 4-night week.”

Not

“Massive growth potential and an incredibly strong outlook ahead.”

03 — Composed

Assured, never loud. No exclamation-point energy, no hype adjectives doing a verb’s job. Confidence is shown by what we leave out.

We say

“A $4.15B green-ammonia project, structured for bankability.”

Not

“A game-changing, world-class, revolutionary mega-project!”

04 — Purposeful metaphor

The crew, the rudder, the tempo — used to frame meaning, never to fill space. If the rowing image isn’t carrying an idea, delete it.

Words we use · words we retire

In the lexicon
  • steer · pace · crew · momentum · synchronise
  • build · operate · finance · execute
  • evidence · discipline · cadence · bankable
× Retired
  • synergy · best-in-class · world-class
  • disrupt · cutting-edge · game-changer
  • “leverage” as filler · “passionate about” · “thrilled to”

Four registers, one voice

The character is constant; the register meets the room. Same idea, four ways.

Investor · formal

“EAGA is a $4.15B green-ammonia project, government-licensed and structured for bankability. Q1 actuals underpin the model.”

Consumer · hospitality

“Cassette. New Alamein. The room where the season happens — quality sound, a real crowd, no filler.”

Internal · culture

“We’re a crew, not a headcount. Earn the seat, call it early, and keep the tempo. Evidence over noise.”

Crisis · sensitive

“Here is what happened, what we are doing, and who owns it. We will update as we know more. No spin.”

Construction & geometry

The mark is built on a fixed geometric grid. The blade runs on a true 45° axis; the dot’s diameter sets the brand’s base unit (); the chevron is perfectly symmetrical; blade and chevron share one stroke weight. Press play to watch it assemble.

The visual language built from the mark.

Every supporting element is derived from the logo’s geometry — the 45° blade, the rising chevron, the vertical accent bar. Nothing decorative is invented from outside the system.

The accent bar

A short vertical bar in the active accent, used to open sections, flag highlights and brand email & documents. It is the brand’s smallest signature.

This is the accent bar in use

The blade angle & chevron motif

The 45° diagonal and the rising chevron are the brand’s graphic DNA — for dividers, image crops, data emphasis and large-format flourishes. Always true-45°, always sparing.

Pattern studio — the mark, multiplied

The illustration system is the mark’s three gestures — dot, blade, chevron — composed on a 45° grid. Nothing is drawn from outside the system. Generate a fresh composition in the live accent, and export it for backgrounds, dividers and large format.

Motion: the brand idea, set in time.

“Power, synchronized” is a statement about motion. Eight efforts, one rhythm, one forward line. So the brand moves the way the crew rows — everything enters and settles on a single beat. Nothing drifts; nothing races alone.

Power, synchronized.Eight oars · one stroke
Strokes in rhythm0

The crew above is drawn from the mark’s own geometry — eight dots, eight blades, catching and driving as one. The wake moves because the strokes agree. That is the entire thesis of the company, animated: coordination, not force, is what produces speed. (Retune the accent ↘ and the whole system follows.)

The brand in motion — the film

The 60-second brand film puts the whole system in time — the synchronized crew, the accent, the type, the voice. This is the real production master.

Principles

One beat

Co-occurring elements share a duration and curve. Staggers are deliberate (≤80 ms), never random.

Forward only

Motion points where the boat is going — up and into frame. No bounce, no spin, no decorative jitter.

Respect the rower

Honour prefers-reduced-motion: animation is enhancement, never the message.

Sonic identity

The brand has a sound, and it is the same idea: eight strokes that resolve into one chord. A short mnemonic — the “catch” of eight quick notes settling into a major resolve — for app opens, venue moments, and video bumpers. Press play.

Built from the stroke

Eight ascending notes = the crew catching; the final chord = synchronized. The rhythm is the mark, in time.

Where it plays

App / site opens, Cassette set transitions, video intros & bumpers, hold music. Always ≤4s, never looped.

The rule

One mnemonic, one arrangement. It may be re-voiced per vertical (warmer for hospitality) but never re-composed.

Application

Email signature

The standard HTML signature, rendered as it appears in mail — the mark behind a single accent rule, name, an accent uppercase title, the M / E / W rows, and the legal footer. This matches the house template in Brand_Assets/Email_Signatures/; per vertical, only the accent changes.

Global application & Arabic-RTL

Type & direction

Latin: Space Grotesk / Inter. Arabic body: القاهرة set in a matched geometric face (Cairo or Tajawal), slightly larger x-height, tracking near 0. Mirror the layout for dir="rtl" — the accent bar moves to the right edge.

Meaning, not just words

“Power, synchronized” and the crew metaphor carry in MENA — rowing on the Nile is local heritage, not an import. Translate the idea, not only the line; keep alt-text and lang attributes per script.

Governance, tokens & the people who keep the brand whole.

A brand is only as strong as its weakest execution. These are the rules of custody, the engineering tokens, and who to call.

Design tokens — one source, every format

Not a palette — a system. One DTCG source, assets/tokens/tokens.json, is compiled by build_tokens.py into CSS custom properties, SCSS, a typed TS object, a Tailwind theme and a Markdown reference — so Figma and code build from the same truth. 100 tokens across colour, space, radius, elevation, z-index, type, motion and semantic roles.

Asset library & file naming

The single source of truth is 01_Corporate/Brand_Assets/. This manual ships with a complete export set: logos (mark / horizontal / vertical × black, white & four accents), colour tokens (.css · .scss · .json), and source files. Name every new asset [Entity]_[Category]_[Description]_[YYYY-MM]_[Version].

Asset export hub

Every asset in this manual is generated from live data — so you can pull clean, current files straight from this page. No portal, no zip. Exports carry the accent the page is set to.

Crisis & sensitivity protocol

When something goes wrong, the brand behaves the way it always claims to: accountable, evidence-led, composed. Four rules, in order.

1 · Accountability first

Name what happened and who owns it before anything else. No passive voice, no diffusion.

2 · Action over narrative

Lead with what we are doing, not how we feel about it. Spin is a tell.

3 · Transparency

Say what we know, what we don’t, and when we’ll update. Never guess in public.

4 · Respect

People before the brand. Restraint over defensiveness. AI never drafts a crisis line.

Channels. Founder cut (personal, signed), operational cut (facts + next steps), investor cut (impact + mitigation), employee cut (context + ask) — one truth, four framings. Sign-off: CEO + CMO, always human.

One standard. Consistency in brand execution is not optional — it is the foundation of how Coxswains is perceived by clients, investors and the market. When in doubt, choose restraint and ask the custodian.

Versioning & changelog

This system is versioned like software. Major — a repositioning, a new vertical, or a new accent. Minor — a new sub-brand, tool or tone. Patch — typos, links, small fixes. Proposal → CMO review → rollout; every change is logged with a date and an owner.

FAQ

Which accent do I use?

Group / board material → Gold. A vertical → its accent (Marketing Purple, Hospitality Crimson, Energy Emerald). One accent per surface, never mixed. Sub-brands lead with their own colour.

Can I recolour or redraw the mark?

No. Use the supplied files. The mark may only appear in the palette colours (white/black default, accent where the vertical calls for it). Never stretch, rotate, add effects, or reset the wordmark in another face.

What’s the smallest the logo can go?

The horizontal lockup never below 80 px / 20 mm wide. Below that, switch to the mark alone (min 32 px).

Where do I get the assets?

01_Corporate/Brand_Assets/ — logos (mark / horizontal / vertical × six colours), colour + design tokens (assets/tokens/), photography and source files.

Can AI write our copy?

AI may draft; a named human edits, owns and publishes. Never in investor, legal, crisis or personal contexts, and never presenting a forecast as an actual. See Brand in AI (§02).

Who approves brand work?

The Office of the CMO (Aya El Ghazzawy) holds final visual sign-off; new sub-brands or naming need CMO + CEO. Day-to-day questions go through the Brand_Assets channel.

Accessibility statement

This manual targets WCAG 2.1 Level AA. Body text and UI meet AA contrast on Ink; accent colours are reserved for bars and large display, with an AA-safe text tint for labels. It is keyboard-operable end-to-end, exposes a skip link and visible focus, respects prefers-reduced-motion, labels its controls and animations, and marks Arabic content with lang/dir.

Known exceptions: the brand film relies on the player’s native captions; the canvas animations are decorative with text alternatives. Custodian for accessibility questions: Office of the CMO.

The sonic identity (§10) is a non-verbal, ~1.6-second phrase — no speech, no lyrics. It is three rising synth tones in the brand’s major triad that land together on the final note, mirroring a crew catching the water in unison, closed by a soft low swell. It carries no information required to use this document; it is decorative and optional, and every function works with sound off.
